Farnham Rugby Club 1st XV Dig Out Scrappy Win

Saturday 2nd April 2022 2:15pm:  Maybe it was the early 14.15 kick off, the slope of the billiard-table-topped pitch or the fact that Farnham Rugby Club 1st XV rarely travel well. Perhaps it was over confidence given the season’s earlier encounter in which the team put 85 points on the opposition.

Whatever it was, Farnham (for whom Fish Saltus as Principal Partners) were not at their best in Saturday’s league fixture at London Cornish – particularly in the first half.  However, successful teams manage to win under such circumstances. And so it was that Farnham earned the right to look forward with confidence to their second season in London 1 South following their 18-26 win on the day – the seventh “W” of the season.

Ian Colley, Founder and Managing Director of Fish Saltus with Club Chairman Geoff Robins at Fish Saltus’s offices in Gostrey House, Farnham. The club committee were generously hosted there for this September’s meeting.

As principal partner, Farnham-based Fish Saltus will have pride of place on the club’s playing strip worn by five senior sides, a dozen junior (U12-Academy) sides and over 400 mini (U11) players plus branding throughout the club house.  Those shirts are not only seen at the club but at away fixtures across the southern home counties and south London.  Fish Saltus are also title sponsor of the annual Sportsman’s Lunch, a key event in the local business networking calendar hosted at the club.

“We are thrilled to support Farnham Rugby,” said Ian Colley, Fish Saltus founder and Managing Director. “They are fast growing and successful. So are we. They are a solid organisation that abides by rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect and disciple – as we do. They play an innovative and expansive game and have a well-earned reputation for fair play and sportsmanship. That has a lot in common with our approach to financial advice.

“Furthermore, Farnham Rugby Club is first and foremost a community club and by teaming up with them, we reinforce our commitment to the Farnham area,” said Colley.

“We welcome Fish Saltus to the Farnham Rugby Club family,” said Chairman, Geoff Robins. “They join us an important time in our evolution.  Our move to the fabulous facilities at Monkton Lane in 2012 had a huge impact on membership and we are bulging at the seams.  To meet our commitment to provide rugby for as many people as possible of all ages, genders and ability, we need to expand these facilities. Fish Saltus’s contribution – along with that from all our sponsors – gives us a real boost in that quest.”

About Farnham Rugby Club:

Farnham Rugby Union Football Club is a thriving amateur sports club providing rugby for around 1000 playing members aged from over sixty to under six. The 1st XV competes in London 2 South West and the club fields four other senior teams, two in the Surrey reserve leagues, one in the Hampshire leagues and a veteran’s side. All of its Junior and Mini age groups field multiple teams and there is a waiting list to join the club as a Mini. In recent years, the club has reinvigorated its Women and Girls Section and now boasts over fifty player in a section that will play in both country and national competitions this season.

The club is a relative newcomer in rugby terms being founded in 1975. The club transformed when it moved in 2012 to new grounds – with two floodlit and two full, international sized pitches – with a clubhouse that is the envy of all who visit. Since then, the 1st XV is playing at their highest level ever with credible ambitions this year to be promoted to London 1. Meanwhile, the growth in membership is outstripping these new facilities.  Visit the Farnham Rugby Club website to find out more.
